eliot guthrie / kate tucker / gala bent

thursday, october 29th 2009. 7pm.

eliot guthrie, a twenty-four year old wunderkind, has cooked his way through some of Seattle's best kitchens to land at the helm of the stove at Smith, Linda Derschang's taxidermied bar/restaurant on 15th. For more than a year, Guthrie has quietly and consistently churned out elegant reinventions of pub food, gaining regulars by the dozens daily. – WR

kate tucker – fresh off the plane from a CMJ performance, the honey-voiced Kate Tucker joins The New Guard for an intimate and unique show. Tucker, once backed by the Sons of Sweden, has earned comparisons to Beth Orton, Mazzy Star, and Neko Case. Earnest and honest lyrics of heartbreak, romance, and longing are drawn out by her charismatic & haunting voice. – DJ & SJ

gala bent has shown in galleries across the US and Europe, including venerable local spaces Seattle Art Museum Gallery and Gallery 4Culture. Her works on paper are sweet, hairy studies of the fantastic imagination usually only seen in children. She pairs her beautiful linework with punctuations of color to create highly engaging drawing/painting combos that pull you right in. – JV
